The Helicopter String Quartet expands the musical space far beyond the opera house. Be there when the string quartet takes off. The scale of the production is enormous and extraordinary. You’ll experience four helicopters, four musicians, four pilots, and complex sound and visual technology.
In the Helicopter String Quartet, Stockhausen’s daring dreams come true. Here, music truly takes flight.
The Helicopter String Quartet forms the centerpiece of *Wednesday of Light*. Of course, four helicopters cannot take off from the auditorium of the Deutsche Oper. But they will take off.
Two weeks before the premiere of *Mittwoch aus Licht*, four musicians in four helicopters will take off from Schönhagen Airport in Brandenburg. The flight and the musicians will be filmed, and the footage will later become part of the production.
If you’re wary of helicopters or don’t have time for a trip to Brandenburg, you can still experience it live.
The “Helicopter String Quartet” will be livestreamed onto a large screen in the Main Hall of the Deutsche Oper. The advantage here is optimal sound and video quality for the broadcast, just as Stockhausen envisioned it. Tickets are free here as well, but space is limited.
