Excavation at Molkenmarkt

This tour takes you through the Molkenmarkt excavation site, where one of Berlin’s first power plants (E-Werk) stood since 1889. During the excavations behind the Rotes Rathaus, the basements of the turbine and battery halls were uncovered, documented, and backfilled. These have now been preserved for posterity and are to be integrated into a new building that is being constructed on this site.

The excavation team will guide you expertly through the current excavation site and present original finds from the old power plant.

Some of the finds are on display at PETRI Berlin. On September 24 and 26, you can learn all about these fascinating artifacts during guided tours there.

This event is part of the Berlin Industrial Heritage Festival.
