Ekkehard Maaß on the harmonium and guitar
In addition to well-known Biermann songs, the program also features lesser-known works from his early years. Ekkehard Maaß witnessed Wolf Biermann’s expatriation firsthand. Because he collected signatures opposing the expatriation, he was expelled from Humboldt University. Inspired by Biermann’s apartment on Chausseestraße, he subsequently founded a literary salon that still exists today. There, he has organized more than 150 events on topics such as the history of the GDR, as well as Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Israel, Georgia, and Ukraine. In 2010, he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit for his many years of social activism.
The event is part of the special program marking the 65th anniversary of the construction of the Berlin Wall.
