FLOW comes to Berlin for the first time – an immersive 360° experience at the Passionskirche in Berlin
With FLOW, PROJEKTIL returns to the Passionskirche and once again transforms one of the capital’s most atmospherically striking spaces into a unique stage for immersive art.
The historic church in the heart of Kreuzberg is regarded as a striking venue that bridges tradition, urban life, and cultural openness. For decades, this imposing sacred building—with its high vaults, massive stone, exceptional spatial depth, and impressive acoustics—has created a space with a special atmosphere.
It is precisely this venue that now serves as the stage for FLOW—a work that takes audiovisual poetry to a new dimension.
FLOW – when music becomes light and space
Inside the Passionskirche, the historic vaults are transformed into a room-filling 360-degree work of art composed of light, sound, and movement. FLOW is entirely dedicated to Bedřich Smetana’s world-famous composition “The Moldau”—but in a form unlike anything you’ve ever experienced. The work has been newly arranged, recorded with the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, expanded to include modern electronic elements, and produced exclusively for this immersive experience. The result is an extraordinary fusion of classical musical tradition, contemporary sound design, and monumental visual art. The music captures the river’s journey—from its source through rapids, landscapes, and cities to its mouth. Every phase of the composition is brought to life in Berlin through visual, spatial, and emotional experiences.
The Vltava Flows Through Berlin
In FLOW, the Vltava River flows through the entire church space like a living stream. Light flows over walls, arches, columns, and ceilings. Water structures, colors, and movements interweave with the sound to create an immersive overall experience in which space and perception dissolve. Visitors stand in the midst of a stream of light, music, and movement—and experience how the boundaries between architecture, emotion, and sound open up in a unique way.
Water as a Symbol of Life
Water is both origin and memory. An element that shapes the world just as it shapes us. It bears the traces of time, moves ceaselessly forward, and yet always remains true to itself. In its flow, water reveals an ancient law: Everything changes—and only what moves remains alive. FLOW takes up this symbolism and makes it a spatial experience. The journey of the Vltava tells of beginnings, transitions, loss, strength, and renewal. Many visitors will
will also rediscover their own inner flow.
The Passionskirche as Berlin’s Resonance Chamber
It is precisely in spaces like the Passionskirche that this dimension becomes particularly palpable. The ancient stone, the height of the nave, the echo of the vaults, and the play of light create a place where the interior and exterior merge. In the heart of vibrant Kreuzberg, FLOW creates a counterpoint to the city: a place of tranquility, beauty, and focus. Especially during the Berlin summer, the pleasantly cool church also becomes a special retreat with cultural depth.
Berlin as a New International Venue
With FLOW, Projektil is opening a new chapter in its international success story and demonstrating for the first time just how powerfully the Passionskirche can be used as an artistic resonance space. Berlin thus joins the ranks of international cultural capitals where immersive formats are setting new standards. The capital is once again proving its openness to innovative forms of expression that bridge art, technology, and emotion.
