To kick off the new season at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Susanne Kennedy is staging Stockhausen’s *Wednesday of Light*—an opera that turns consciousness itself into a stage. For the *Im Kino* series, she has chosen David Lynch’s *Inland Empire*.
Synopsis:
Nikki Grace, once a famous actress, is hired for a film project. Shortly before filming begins, she learns that it is a remake of an earlier version that was never completed due to mysterious deaths. Nikki agrees to take on the role anyway. But as she slips into her new character and begins an affair with her colleague, she seems to increasingly lose touch with reality and the boundary between the present and the past, between fictional and real people and places.
With “Unlimited,” opera comes to the movies: In one of the theaters at delphi Lux, artists from this opera season will showcase their secret favorite films, guilty pleasures, or cinematic sources of inspiration in the context of the opera productions—and introduce them in person. All in keeping with the season’s motto, “Make Love…”
