The History of a Berlin Inn Hall (Now Known as LabSaal)

In the heart of the village of Lübars stands a historic restaurant. For 130 years, the building has been a silent witness to German and Berlin history.

Norbert Heners-Martin recounts the eventful past of what is now the LabSaal. The former restaurant, once a popular destination for day trips, served as a warehouse for the Senate Reserve, but was also the venue for film screenings, masquerade balls, and numerous celebrations.

Nathalie Scholl from the Berlin Center for Industrial Culture (bzi) places the history of the LabSaal within the context of Berlin’s industrial culture. She reports on her research into Argus Motoren GmbH.

Between 1906 and 1945, the Reinickendorf-based company manufactured engines for cars and airplanes. During World War II, the restaurant in Lübars served as a secret warehouse for Argus aircraft engines.

The lectures are part of the Festival of Berlin Industrial Culture.
