Jean Sibelius’s Violin Concerto is one of Lisa Batiashvili’s “signature pieces.” With her interpretation of the work—as brilliant as it is deeply felt—the violinist won the Sibelius Competition and launched her international career.
The evening will open with Lotta Wennäkoski’s *Verdigris*—a shimmering interplay of sounds and a subtle homage to Sibelius. To mark the 200th anniversary of Beethoven’s death, conductor Robin Ticciati and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe will also perform his famous Fifth Symphony: a striking four-note motif gives rise to a stirring musical cosmos that leads from darkness to light.
