Erich Mendelsohn (1887–1953) in America
The Art Library preserves the estate of architect Erich Mendelsohn (1887–1953).
In 1926, the year of the United States’ 250th anniversary, he published his impressions of his trip to the U.S. in *America: An Architect’s Picture Book*—the same year that a commission took him to the USSR. He distilled his observations in 1929 into the politically pointed volume *Russia, Europe, America: An Architectural Cross-Section*.
Mendelsohn expert Regina Stephan analyzes both books.
In conversation with Maren Wienigk, curator of the Art Library, his international work will be examined.
