The museum complex in Dahlem—now known as the Dahlem Research Campus—does more than just tell the story of cultural history. The extension designed by Fritz Bornemann and Wills Ebert stands as a remarkable architectural testament to the 20th century.

The structures from the 1960s and 1970s exemplify a radically new vision of museum architecture: no longer stately temple-like buildings, but open, flexible spaces entirely dedicated to the exhibits and visitors. With their clear geometric forms, striking exposed-concrete facades, and consistently functional design, the buildings are now among the most exciting examples of Berlin’s postwar modernism.
The ongoing renovation work aims to carefully preserve this unique architecture while also developing it further for the future. At the Dahlem Research Campus, a place is emerging where architectural history, science, and culture come together in an impressive way. As part of the architectural tours, visitors gain exclusive insights into the history, design, and transformation of the building complex.
In addition, the gallery in the former bookstore (Foyer Lansstr. 8) is hosting a small photo exhibition offering in-depth insights into the architectural history of the site.
Architecture Day is organized by the Berlin Chamber of Architects.
