Opening

The Knoblauchhaus Museum is launching a junior curator project on (self-)love and friendship in the Biedermeier era and today.

In the project “Ein Match haben!” (A Match!), students from an 11th-grade class at Thomas-Mann-Gymnasium (Märkisches Viertel) explored: What was important when looking for a partner in the 19th century—and how does that relate to us today?

The Berlin native Ottilie von Graefe (1816–1898) left behind a portrait album featuring drawings of young women. Building on this, the students examined the expectations and social norms of that era and compared them with contemporary views on relationships and partnership. Their perspectives are now on display in a special presentation.

Facilitators: Imke Küster (art historian) | Stefanie von Schroeter (artist)

Duration:

The exhibition will be on view from Thursday, July 2 through Sunday, September 27, 2026, in a special exhibition space at the Knoblauchhaus Museum.

Location: Special exhibition area (1st floor)
