Venezia salva: Vocal Music by Monteverdi, Cavalli, Garbieli, and others
The latest program by Michele Pasotti and La fonte musica combines the magnificent Venetian church music of the 17th century with an adventurous episode from the history of the City of the Lagoon.
In 1618, a group of Spanish conspirators unsuccessfully planned a hostile takeover of Venice. The French writer and philosopher Simone Weil addressed the event in her 1955 tragedy *Venise sauvée* (Venice Saved).
Inspired by this, the musicians present vocal and instrumental works by the leading composers of the time, such as Claudio Monteverdi, Francesco Cavalli, and Giovanni Gabrieli.
