The Quatuor Ébène sets the standard with its interpretations of Beethoven, thanks to its rhythmic precision, energetic playing, and impressive range of expression.
To mark the 200th anniversary of Beethoven’s death, our “Quartet” series is entirely dedicated to the ensemble this season. The series opens with the First String Quartet from the early Opus 18, in which Beethoven already demonstrated his full compositional originality, as well as two works from his middle period: the lyrical Opus 74—known as the “Harp Quartet” because of its plucked passages in the first movement—and the tension-filled String Quartet in C major, composed for Prince Rasumovsky.
