Bortniansky’s significance in this context cannot be overstated: his works for his St Petersburg court chapel became the archetype of Russian Orthodox choral music and, furthermore, served as a model for the Berlin Cathedral Choir and, consequently, for Mendelssohn’s music.

NoonSong – what is it?
Every Saturday at midday, locals, visitors to Berlin, music fans and architecture enthusiasts gather for NoonSong. It is both a concert and a church service, based on the Anglican Evensong. Eight professional singers from the vocal ensemble sirventes berlin perform choral music under the direction of Stefan Schuck. The repertoire ranges from Renaissance music to contemporary compositions.
