Knut Elstermann presents his new book

Knut Elstermann is a journalist and film critic. In his new book, he embarks on an unusual journey to discover Johann Sebastian Bach. He approaches the composer through the movies and television films that have been made about him over the decades.

Elstermann travels to the original locations of Bach’s life. He speaks with filmmakers and music fans about the challenge of engaging with a great artist whose personality is entirely overshadowed by his works. Elstermann’s book is a declaration of love for Bach.

At the same time, he explores fundamental questions of biographical storytelling. Where does the line between glorification and trivialization lie? How can an authentic portrait emerge when so much must inevitably be fictionalized?
