Drawing on examples from religious texts and modern conflicts within various Jewish groups, this tour explores the history of queerness and gender in Judaism.

It also takes a look at the lives of queer Jews—such as resistance fighter Herbert Budzislawski and social worker Hannah Karminski. Both lived, loved, and fought in the immediate vicinity of the New Synagogue.

During this tour, you will visit the New Synagogue Berlin as well as Spandauer Vorstadt; there, participants will not only discuss the traditional role of women in Judaism but will also focus on Jewish women such as Regina Jonas. As the first female rabbi in history, Regina Jonas broke through existing barriers by fighting for her place as a Jewish spiritual leader.
