Antonín Dvořák became famous for the Bohemian folk elements in his music. With his Seventh Symphony, he revealed a completely different side of himself.
None of his symphonies had been as dark, melancholic, and combative as this one. In contrast, Max Bruch’s First Violin Concerto, the composer’s best-known work, captivates with its enchantingly heartfelt melodies and elegant virtuosity.
The solo part is performed by Pinchas Zukerman, who, like conductor Zubin Mehta, has been associated with the Berlin Philharmonic for decades.
The evening opens with Mozart’s lively overture to the opera Le nozze di Figaro.
