Biennale Eröffnungskonzert
The Berlin Philharmonic opens its biennial festival with the program “Signs and Wonders.” Kirill Petrenko will conduct three works of great spiritual and evocative power.
Olivier Messiaen’s orchestral work *Les Offrandes oubliées* is a soaring, poignant meditation on guilt, sacrifice, and redemption; in his symphony *Mathis der Maler*, Paul Hindemith uses expressive, majestic, and austere sounds to depict three scenes from Matthias Grünewald’s famous Isenheim Altarpiece.
In between, the world premiere of a work by Sarah Nemtsov will be performed—a distinctive voice among the younger generation of composers whose poetic, powerful music touches the listener deeply.
