The network in Berlin-Mitte

During World War II, the Nazis deported nearly the entire Jewish population living in Berlin at the time to ghettos and concentration and extermination camps in Eastern Europe.

Most of the infrastructure of the deportation network was located in what is now the Mitte district. This included the two largest assembly camps on Levetzowstraße and Große Hamburger Straße, as well as the largest of Berlin’s three deportation train stations, the Moabit freight yard.
