The second concert in the ‘Schubert & more’ series is just around the corner – once again under the motto: Music educates and once again in the special atmosphere of the foyer of the Max Planck Institute for Human Development in Dahlem.

This time, two central works of Romantic chamber music will be juxtaposed: Robert Schumann's Piano Trio No. 1 in D minor, Op. 63, and Franz Schubert's Piano Trio No. 2 in E-flat major, D 929 (Op. 100).

Schumann saw himself as Schubert's spiritual heir. Although the two composers never met, Schumann's admiration for Schubert was deep and formative. The two piano trios impressively reflect this closeness: Schumann's first trio is characterised by dramatic energy, dense motivic work and passionate dialogue, while Schubert's second piano trio, with its expansiveness, lyrical tone and melancholic foundation, is one of the most important works of its kind.

The programme will once again be performed by an outstanding ensemble: The young Dutch violinist Noa Wildschut, who established herself internationally as an exceptional musical personality at an early age, will perform alongside cellist Yehjin Chun, whose playing captivates with its tonal depth and great sensitivity. Catalin Serban, who is also the artistic director of the concert series and has a decisive influence on the programmatic concept of Schubert & more, will be at the piano.
