On the road with a donkey, dog, cat and rooster in 4 languages
Beaten! Fired! Too old! This shared fate unites the donkey, dog, cat, and rooster. But they have a plan, because: "We'll find something better than death." Together, they set off for Bremen. Although they don't arrive where they intended, they have found something better than death—namely, friends and a future.
The four animals embody four different nationalities and speak different languages: German, English, Russian, and Turkish, representing a multicultural society. The protagonist is the donkey. The play begins with him, speaking German and guiding the children through the story. With each animal, a puppet appears, speaking a new language and performing a new style.
The only stage element is an exercise bike. Music serves as a means of communication where no other common language exists. Each animal is assigned a musical element—rhythm, bass, harmony, melody. These are layered to create a meaningful whole—a song! The principle of solidarity is conveyed not only through the content but also visually and audibly.
Following their successful collaboration on "Paul and Paula – A Legend," Rike Schuberty, Tilla Kratochwil, and Janna Skroblin are now turning their attention to the classic fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm. The music for the play was composed by Masha Qrella.
For ages 4 and up.
