The two choirs celebrate together the beauty of Hebrew musical culture and the richness of classical and modern Jewish song. Join the celebration!
The Shalom Choir recently celebrated its 30th anniversary. Since its founding, this passionate amateur choir has dedicated itself to preserving traditional and modern synagogue music, and also includes Israeli songs in its repertoire. The richness, diversity, and beauty of this music are immeasurable.
The legendary Chief Cantor of Berlin and Auschwitz survivor Estrongo Nachama co-founded the choir together with the music educator Elisabeth Liebig. He was convinced that his voice had saved his life, and therefore believed throughout his life in the life-saving power of singing, which he shared with everyone who listened to him. His spirit lives on in the Shalom Choir, and preserving his memory is a central concern for all choir members, some of whom have been with the choir since its inception.
The choir will perform under the sensitive direction of conductor Hemi Levison, who also possesses a superb baritone voice. He will be accompanied on the piano by Natalia Gutman, who accompanies the children's choir of the Pestalozzistraße Synagogue.
The Hebrew Choir Berlin was founded in 2014 and currently comprises around 30 singers of varying ages and backgrounds. The choir performs classical as well as contemporary pieces with both religious and secular themes.
Admission is free; donations are welcome.
