“Something’s not right with him” I thought, when my new father entered my life for the first time. Is he keeping something secret? I observed him, asked questions and looked for clues.
My stepfather was helpful, but somehow, I never got close to him, not until much later, after the Berlin Wall fell and the Stasi archives were made accessible. Back then, my stepfather helped people from the east make it to the west and was imprisoned for it in East Germany.
This is a play about fear and constraints, about desires and about the inner battle between speaking and remaining silent.
