In Sasha Waltz’s choreography “Kreatur”, dance grows out of the tensions between creatures that share the same habitat.
The dancers fuse into a single creature through their communal experiences of revolt, ecstasy, and the search for safety, before dissolving back into individual destinies facing new conflicts and connections.
States of power and helplessness, dominance and weakness, community and isolation, sickness and desire all turn out to be facets of the same shimmering nature. This being’s struggle with the chaos of its own impulses becomes a symbol of the private and communal demands of our present.
