Jazz at the Old Fire Station
The Berlin jazz quintet, led by tenor saxophonists Bernd Suchland and Patrick Braun, gets straight to the point: fresh and virtuosic, raw and direct, the band demonstrates the enduring energy of authentic jazz. They take it seriously, the music that has proven its timeless legitimacy since the 1950s and 1960s.
And they do so with a repertoire consisting of genuine discoveries: long-forgotten pieces in the tradition of the legendary two-tenor formations are brought out of the inexhaustible archives of jazz and returned to the stage.
This has been working very well for 20 years now and around 400 concerts. The audience appreciates the musicians' uncomplicated approach and feels the relaxed groove of this soulful music. The Toughest Tenors stylishly keep alive the area of jazz that used to be part of everyday culture and that deserves to be listened to with the heart rather than analysed with the head.
The Toughest Tenors are:
- Bernd Suchland, tenor saxophone
- Patrick Braun, tenor saxophone
- Dan-Robin Matthies, piano
- Lars Gühlcke, double bass
- Ralf Ruh, drums
