Citadel Music Festival
Zaz – the artist who breathed new life into the chanson – is often mentioned in the same breath as Ella Fitzgerald and Edith Piaf. Few can live up to such comparisons, but the French singer proves with her unique voice and stage presence that she is more than worthy.
Isabelle Geffroy – better known as Zaz – was born in Tours in 1980 and developed a talent for music at an early age. As a child, she learned to play several instruments before studying at the renowned CIAM music school in Bordeaux. There, she gained experience in various genres, singing in a Latin rock band, a Basque dance orchestra, and a blues band, among others.
Her musical breakthrough came in Paris, where she rediscovered her love for the chanson – the favorite songs of her childhood – in the famous Montmartre artists' quarter.
During this time, Zaz frequently busked and met her first producer, Kerredine Soltani, with whom she later composed her biggest hit, "Je Veux." With this song, she unexpectedly won a national talent competition in 2009 and shortly thereafter released her debut album, "Zaz."
The album became a sensational success: more than 20 weeks at number one on the French charts, double platinum in Germany, and countless television and festival appearances throughout Europe.
With her second studio album, "Recto Verso," Zaz increasingly focused on pop music, collaborating with legends such as Quincy Jones and John Clayton.
Just a year later, her cover album "Paris" was released, on which she reinterpreted well-known songs about the City of Love.
After a nearly four-year hiatus, she released "Effet Miroir" in 2018, on which she sang in Spanish for the first time. Two years later came "Isa," which revealed a more personal and vulnerable side of her than ever before, reconnecting more closely with her chanson roots.
Even at previous concerts, audiences were captivated by Zaz's unique magic and powerful voice – these concerts in select venues promise a truly special experience.
Anyone who wants to experience the most successful French artist of the last 50 years up close in Germany should secure their tickets for her Berlin concert now!
