MINIFESTIVAL

To mark the conclusion of the project ‘Jewish Cultural Club East Berlin,’ the Institute for New Social Sculpture is hosting a mini-festival that uses artistic means to offer new perspectives on debates about the GDR, East Germany, and post-Soviet Central and Eastern Europe with regard to Jewish history and the present.


The programme includes an exhibition featuring young Jewish artists, a series of interviews with Jewish East Berliners, readings with Boris Schumatsky and Regina Scheer, and an artist talk.

Daily from 4 p.m.:
Exhibition of new works by young Jewish artists: Natalia Chmielarz, Margalit Cutler, Guta Goldstein & Tim Slade & Dr Joseph Toltz, Jewish Partisan Descendants Project, naveed lsn, Simon Ostaschenko, Regina Potomkina, Polina Schneider, Martín Volman, Dina Zaitev.


17 November:

6 p.m.:
Presentation of a new interview film with Jewish East Berliners, attended by sociologist and contemporary witness Ellen Händler

7 p.m.:
Reading with Regina Scheer from her novel ‘Im Schatten der Sterne’ (In the Shadow of the Stars)


18 November:

5 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.:
Artist talk with Simon Ostaschenko, Regina Potomkina, Natalia Chmielarz, Nehama Grenimann Bauch (Jewish Partisan Descendants Project), Margalit Cutler, Martín Volman, Polina Schneider and Dina Zaitev.

7 p.m.:
Reading with Boris Schumatsky from his essay collection ‘Der neue Untertan. Populismus, Postmoderne, Putin’.
