Rundfunkchor Berlin

Jochen Sandig's award-winning production of Johannes Brahms's "German Requiem" with the Rundfunkchor Berlin will be performed again in April 2026, where it premiered in 2012: at the Radialsystem.

Under the direction of Chief Conductor Gijs Leenaars and together with a team from Sasha Waltz & Guests, the Rundfunkchor Berlin choreographs the Brahms Requiem. The separation between stage and auditorium is eliminated; the audience is not seated directly in front of the sound, but moves within it – text, body, space, and sound are directly connected.

The "human requiem" has touched listeners worldwide for 14 years now – and is more relevant than ever. In the face of unimaginable suffering caused by war and a multitude of crises, the need for consolation is enormous at the moment. And Brahms' Requiem is not a mass for the dead. On the contrary: it is intended to provide precisely this comfort to the living. And that is why a spatial implementation of this work is so fitting in terms of content.

The message of the Requiem becomes a direct, collective experience in the community of singers and listeners.
