Shopping around Hackescher Markt

Between historic courtyards, trendy boutiques and international labels, a shopping experience that perfectly combines Berlin flair and urban lifestyle awaits you around Hackescher Markt. Here you will find creative concept stores, young designers and small manufacturers that offer fashion, jewellery and accessories outside the mainstream.

The area around Hackescher Markt is also home to many internationally recognised brands with large, prestigious shops. A stroll through this neighbourhood offers you a lively mix of history, design and big city atmosphere. And if you need a breather, charming cafés invite you to linger.

The area around Hackescher Markt has a special flair at any time of year. The weekly market on Hackescher Markt (1) is a great place for a stroll, especially in the warmer months. The offer is an eclectic mix of food trucks, groceries, handicrafts and odds and ends. The market is always held on Thursdays and Saturdays. In winter, it becomes more of a Christmas market.
Speaking of Christmas: In the Käthe Wohlfahrt Store (2) just a few metres away, you can buy Christmas crafts such as Christmas tree decorations, candle arches and incense smokers all year round.

A must if you are at Hackescher Markt: The Hackesche Höfe (3). These not only offer all kinds of interesting shops spread across courtyards 1 to 8, but are also architecturally impressive. The Hackesche Höfe were opened in 1906 according to plans by August Endell and were the largest enclosed courtyard complex in Europe at the time. They combined living, working and culture in a unique way and quickly developed into a popular meeting place. After periods of decay in the 20th century, the courtyards were extensively restored after the fall of the Berlin Wall.

In courtyard 2 you will find Sawade (4), a Berlin chocolate and praline manufacturer. In the pretty branch, "The Wonder Machine" delights visitors as a small speciality. The mechanical construction dispenses a chocolate praline in a convoluted way when you insert a coin.

If you want to discover even more Berlin specialities, pay a visit to EAT BERLIN (5) in courtyard 4. Here you can discover all sorts of Berlin specialities that make great souvenirs for yourself or those at home. For example, spirits, Berlin currywurst seasoning, preserves and much more.

Also located in courtyard 4 is the vintage upcycling fashion brand Who Killed Bamby? (6). The Berlin label has been transforming discarded clothing into unique one-offs since 2020. In close collaboration with local artists, sustainable pieces are created that are inspired by the spirit of punk and the creativity of the city.

The innovative and sustainable approach continues at Codressing (7) in Hof 7, where you can rent designer pieces at fair prices - and buy them if you fall in love with them.

When you leave Hackesche Höfe again, the jewellery and pearl shop TUKADU (8) will amaze you. The charming workshop produces handmade jewellery that screams Berlin. Animal figures, colourful stones and miniatures are incorporated into the designs. Visitors can not only buy unusual accessories here, but also create their own designs in workshops.

The tour then continues along Rosenthaler Straße, which is lined with numerous interesting shops. Friends of the little things will get their money's worth at Kauf Dich Glücklich (9) and Schee (10) near Jacob-Teitel-Park. There are numerous options for a lunch break or a cup of coffee around Hackescher Markt. Stop off at Đistrict Một (11) , for example. This trendy Vietnamese restaurant is lively, colourful, cheerful and of course delicious. The trademark: Colourful plastic stools, as are common in Vietnamese street food restaurants.

Merz b. Schwanen (12) is just a stone's throw away. This is the place to go if you are looking for high-quality, long-lasting basics for your wardrobe. Merz b. Schwanen specialises in the production of cotton fabrics that are no longer available on the market. Founders Gitta and Peter Plotnicki produce these from certified organic cotton using original looms from the early 20th century in Germany.

Just a few steps further on, Stokx (13) offers exclusive fashion directly from designer Melinda Stokes. Good tailoring and visionary cuts go hand in hand here. Stokes has specialised in doing justice to different body types with her fashion, defying gender stereotypes and body ideals. In addition to the finished designs, she sells patterns, tailors on request and gives online courses.

Afterwards, take a stroll through Mulackstrasse and Steinstrasse. Here you will discover, among other things, the charming Superbazaro (14), which delights with a curated selection of special little things that make life more beautiful. Superbazaro is a counterpart to the minimalist trend and focuses on a colourful mix of original finds with which you can express your personality.

Eyewear wearers should then pay a visit to Ace & Tate (15). The Dutch company impresses with its same-day glasses service, which allows you to hold the glasses you want with the right strength in your hands just a few hours later for a small surcharge. The collections: Contemporary, stylish and very Berlin.

You are approaching the busy intersection of Weinmeisterstraße/ Neue Schönhauser Straße / Alte Schönhause Straße / Münzstraße. Around the intersection you will find trendy shops such as Monki (17), & Other Stories (20) or the Berlin flagship store of Adidas Originals (18).

If you are interested in luxurious fragrances, several shops in this corner will appeal to you. On Alte Schönhauser Straße, you will be tempted by the exquisite range of Le Labo (16). Originally founded in New York, Le Labo is dedicated to unconventional eau de parfums and classic fragrances in a particularly pure form and based on high-quality ingredients. Diptyque (19) also offers your nose a first-class experience. Immerse yourself in a sensory world of exquisite fragrances with imaginative names and marvel at the pretty flacons with artistically sophisticated label designs.

Afterwards, stroll along Neue Schönhauser Straße and soon Hackescher Markt and Hackesche Höfe will be in sight again. If you need some refreshments at the end of your tour, why not take a detour to Oranienburger Straße?
