Lament and hope, cries from the depths, and the certainty of salvation: To close the season, the RIAS Chamber Choir, under the direction of Peter Dijkstra, combines sacred Baroque music with 20th-century masterpieces.
Dijkstra, one of the most renowned choral conductors of our time, once again demonstrates his flair for sonorous dramaturgy and stylistic diversity. The focus is on Frank Martin's Mass for Double Choir – a key work of the 20th century, which the Swiss composer initially kept under wraps for over 40 years because, for him, it was "only a matter between God and me."
In addition, three works will be performed that revolve around the longing for divine mercy: James MacMillan's radiantly warm Miserere (2009), Nana Forte's intense Miserere (2023), and Domenico Scarlatti's magnificent ten-part Stabat Mater (1724) – a rarely heard work with an overwhelming aura that touches on central questions of human existence and goes straight to the heart.
