Silent film with organ accompaniment
The magic of silent film returns – accompanied by live music that lends the images their emotional depth. In the past, the cinema organ took on the role of an orchestra; today, the church organ fulfills this role with impressive sonic diversity.
Concert organist David Schirmer is passionate about improvised silent film accompaniment and regularly brings classics to life live.
SAFETY LAST (1923 | Fred C. Newmeyer | Comedy | 73 min.)
A country boy (Harold Lloyd), fanatical about the promise of economic advancement, throws himself into the hustle and bustle of the big city in an effort to get rich quickly. The letters he writes to his fiancée back home are full of optimism and stories of success, while in reality, one fiasco follows another. The protagonist's final attempt, despite his physical unfitness, to climb a skyscraper is the result of a highly paid publicity campaign. The image of Harold Lloyd, high above the traffic, fidgeting on the hands of a giant clock, went down in history as an ironic commentary on the "American Dream."
