BG Summer Festival | Culinary intervention and panel discussion
To mark the 50th anniversary of the Berlinische Galerie, a culinary intervention is being held on the lettering field in front of the museum.
With the artist collective TDD Bon Appétit, the Berlinische Galerie is creating an opportunity to eat together and engage in conversation. Their event serves as a starting point for reflecting on the relationship between art and cuisine, food as a communal experience, and the role of culinary practices in public spaces.
The project is curated by the volunteers of the Berlinische Galerie.
Apropos Apéro
The core of the evening is the culinary intervention Apropos Apéro by the artists of TDD Bon Appétit. The collective will bake pizzas in a mobile oven. These can be shared and eaten by visitors. At tables with artistically designed tablecloths, a space for exchange and exploration of the practice of eating together is created.
In Conversation
The event will be accompanied by a panel discussion exploring the significance of food as a collective practice for public space. Questions of belonging and identity are often negotiated based on who eats where and how. Culinary practices can be the basis for discrimination. At the same time, they can provide safe spaces for community and are a source of self-care and empowerment.
They will discuss these topics with Gülsüm Güler and İnci Güler from TDD Bon Appétit, Fallon Tiffany Cabral, and Maryam Gardisi. Together, they will discuss how a collective culinary practice can intervene in this tension.
How can an artistic approach to food and cooking create space for community? And what happens, in turn, to the work of a museum as a public institution when it invites guests to a shared meal on its forecourt?
