Chamber Concert IX spans a period from the Romantic era to the early 20th century. With works by Robert Schumann, Karol Szymanowski, and Erich Wolfgang Korngold, this program brings together three composers who create poetic soundscapes and musical imagery in very different ways. Schumann’s wistful string quartet meets Szymanowski’s dazzling “Myths” and Korngold’s opulent piano quintet.

“The Fantastic”—this is the theme of this season’s chamber concerts in the Apollosaal, inspired by the season’s first opera premiere: Offenbach’s *Les Contes d’Hoffmann*. Musicians from the Staatskapelle Berlin have put together diverse programs that explore this fascinating theme in various ways.

From Baroque sounds to contemporary works, with a special focus on the Romantic period, “The Fantastic” unfolds through diverse chamber music ensembles and exciting interpretations.
