The Lighthouse of Digital Art

An interplay of art and technology

Aura Labs awaits you on the lively RAW site. In this innovative gallery, the entire space becomes a work of art - and you are right in the centre of it. State-of-the-art laser projectors transform walls and floors into unique light installations where you can take selfies, enjoy and simply marvel...

What is there to see

With changing exhibitions, Aura Labs (the successor to the Lighthouse of Digital Art) opens up a new approach to art in the digital age. The focus is on works that react to movement, touch or the presence of guests.

In the current exhibition "Singularity & Coexistence", for example, a three-part journey unfolds: Firstly, you literally immerse yourself in the "training" of a machine with code, ASCII and neon waves and become part of the data stream. Then you will experience how an AI creates digital twins of natural and urban spaces - whereby the digital mirror images of the visitors themselves are woven into the hybrid landscapes. And in the crystalline glass world called "Hyperion", man and machine seem to merge into a new digital existence.

Why is a visit to Aura Labs worthwhile?

Instead of passively viewing works of art, you become part of a dynamic space in which your presence has an impact. The place is therefore not a classic museum, but a new kind of experience at the intersection of art, technology and perception.

Background & history

The name "Aura" is derived from the media-theoretical concept of "aura" - the unique presence inherent in works of art and spaces. AURA Labs takes this term literally and translates it into digital, generative landscapes.

Digital art on the RAW site

The RAW site in Berlin-Friedrichshain was built in 1867 as the Reichsbahnausbesserungswerk (RAW) and was once used for train maintenance. After its closure in the 1990s, the site developed into a vibrant centre for art, culture and alternative projects. Aura Labs fits perfectly into this popular cultural centre and has been using state-of-the-art projection technology to create immersive digital art experiences since its opening.

What makes Aura Labs so special

The visit is particularly suitable if you are looking for an interactive experience that stands out from traditional museums and exhibitions. New art forms are experimented with here, and you are invited to actively participate and influence the visual worlds yourself. Photos are expressly permitted. Just be careful not to disturb the other visitors.

Located in the centre of the creative environment of the RAW site, the location blends in perfectly with Berlin's lively cultural and nightlife scene.

Your visit to the Lighthouse of Digital Art

You can easily reach Aura Labs on the RAW site by public transport . Take the S-Bahn lines S3, S5, S7 or S9 to the Warschauer Straße stop. The underground lines U1 and U3 also stop here. From there it is only a few minutes' walk to the entrance to the RAW site.

More culture in the neighbourhood

Other exciting cultural highlights await you in the immediate vicinity of the Lighthouse of Digital Art. The East Side Gallery, the longest remaining section of the Berlin Wall, is just a few minutes' walk away and offers an impressive open-air gallery of international artists. The Uber Arena is also within walking distance. Concerts and sporting events regularly take place here. There are also numerous bars, clubs and galleries around Warschauer Strasse that characterise the cultural life of Friedrichshain.
