Even the Romans are said to have played a kind of handball, and depictions of teams throwing a colourful cloth bag back and forth are also known from the Middle Ages. But the sport only really became popular in the last century. Today's handball is actually a Berlin invention. The favourites in Berlin are the Füchse, the professional handball section of the Reinickendorfer Füchse sports club, who have been playing in the first Bundesliga since the 2007-2008 season.
Having won the European Cup, the Super Globe and Olympic bronze in 2016, the Füchse have already made history in the sports city of Berlin. A large fan club supports the team loudly with drums and trumpets at its home and away games. The Max-Schmeling-Halle in Prenzlauer Berg is the home venue - the FUCHSBAU. And when the Füchse wear their green jerseys, the wild chase can begin.
