Alba Berlin

The German capital is thrilled with two teams on the road to success

ALBA BERLIN has been a fixture in German men’s basketball since the early 1990s and has recently won several national titles. At the same time, the women’s team has steadily worked its way up the ranks and won the German Cup this year.

In German basketball, ALBA BERLIN stands for both continuity and development. The men’s team has been one of the most successful Bundesliga sides since the 1990s and has played in the Basketball-Bundesliga (BBL) without interruption since the club was founded. Over the years, they have won league and cup titles.

The women’s section is considerably younger: it started in the Landesliga in 2008, turned professional in 2019, was promoted to the 1st DBBL in 2022, won the German Championship in 2024 and became German Cup winners in 2026.

The men’s history began in Charlottenburg. Emerging from BG Charlottenburg, the team has borne the name ALBA BERLIN since 1991. The club quickly established itself as a fixture in German professional basketball. An early highlight was winning the Korac Cup in 1995, which remains the most important international title in the club’s history to this day.

In the decades that followed, ALBA remained at the top level nationally and , with several title-winning runs and regular appearances in the play-offs, became one of the most successful German clubs overall. To date, they have won11 league titles and 11 cup victories.

With this title, the team qualified for the next step at European level and competed in the EuroCup Women for the first time in 2024/25. In 2026, the team became German Cup winners.

At home games, the ALBA women are cheered on at the Sömmeringhalle, whilst the Albatrosses play at the Uber Arena.
