The German capital is thrilled with two teams on the road to success
ALBA BERLIN has been a fixture in German men's basketball since the early 1990s and has recently won several national titles. At the same time, the women's team has worked its way up step by step and was promoted to the 1st DBBL in 2022 and won the German championship in 2024.
ALBA BERLIN stands for both continuity and development in German basketball. The men have been one of the most successful Bundesliga teams since the 1990s and have played continuously in the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) since the club was founded. Over the years, they have collected championship and cup titles.
The women's section is much younger: it started in the national league in 2008, was professionalised from 2019, was promoted to the 1st DBBL in 2022 and won the German championship in 2024.
The NBA is the highest professional basketball league in North America and is considered the most prestigious and popular basketball league in the world. And on 15 January 2026, they will come to Berlin with the first regular season NBA game . History of the Albatrosses
The men's history begins in Charlottenburg. Having emerged from BG Charlottenburg, the team has been known as ALBA BERLIN since 1991 and the club quickly developed into a permanent fixture in German professional basketball. An early highlight was winning the Korac Cup in 1995, still the most important international title in the club's history.
In the following decades, ALBA remained at the top level nationally and became one of the most successful German clubs overall with several title series and regular play-off appearances. To date, they have won 11 championships and 11 cups.
Alba Berlin Women
The club started in 2008/09 with a women's team in the Berlin state league. Before the 2019/20 season, the women's section was professionalised and developed towards the national top level. The ALBA women have been playing in the 1st DBBL since autumn 2022 and won their first championship title in 2024. With this title, the team qualified for the next step at European level and competed in the EuroCup Women for the first time in 2024/25.
At home games, the ALBA women are cheered on in the Sömmeringhalle, the Albatrosses in the Uber Arena.
