A place of silence and Far Eastern spirituality in Berlin-Frohnau
"Everyone is cordially invited, everyone is welcome..." - With these words, a very special place of peace and contemplation opens up. Between 1922 and 1924, the Berlin doctor and writer Paul Dahlke had the Buddhist House built for his community on the highest elevation in Frohnau.
Today, it is considered the oldest and most important Buddhist place of worship in Europe and a centre for the teachings of the Buddha in Germany. You enter the grounds through the artistically designed elephant gate, climb 73 steps and walk up eight flights of stairs that symbolise the eightfold path to salvation.
Once at the top, the simple temple, an extensive library and a lovingly landscaped garden that radiates peace and space await you. The atmosphere is quiet and contemplative - a place that makes you forget the hustle and bustle of the city.
The house is open daily from 10 am to 6 pm. In addition to meditation courses, guided tours and lectures, you can simply enjoy the silence - admission is free.
A visit to the Buddhist House takes you on a path of mindfulness in the centre of Berlin - calm, honest and open to all.
