Theater
In *Your Baggage Unattended*, a family torn in many ways finds itself in the transit zone between the past and what might be, between alienation and arrival, between homeland and home. Here, where familiar structures are beginning to falter, each person encounters themselves: their own wounds, suppressed longings and unspoken, intergenerational expectations. Mother and sister, daughter and brother, father and son-in-law – the bonds are varied and fractured. And so this stopover becomes a mirror room, into which questions of responsibility and care press their way.
*Your Baggage Unattended* is the result of a large-scale theatre workshop: *Extended Cooperation*. Around forty theatre practitioners came together at the Ballhaus Naunynstraße to learn from one another, draw inspiration from contributors and create theatre from the wealth of encounters. ‘Extended Cooperation’ was made possible by the prize money from the Federal Theatre Prize, with which the Ballhaus Naunynstraße was honoured in 2023 as a ‘unique framework’ for new practices in theatre-making. Two play scripts and two workshop productions emerged from this.
*Your Baggage Unattended* is a debut in several respects: it is the first play by the playwrights Elona Beqiraj and Jenaba Samura, the result of their first collaboration; and, following several dramaturgical projects at the theatre, it marks Thu Hoài Tran’s directorial debut at the Ballhaus Naunynstraße.
