Marzahn is considered the largest housing estate in the GDR and is often scorned by Berliners. It's no secret, however, that the district has much more to offer than drab prefabricated buildings.

This is what brought Dane Asger Hunov here, who was initially fascinated by the architecture. However, he soon realized that the people who live here have much more exciting stories to tell.

Therefore, the photographer went on-site and via social media to search for Marzahn residents who were willing to participate in a photo and interview book about life in Marzahn.

These interviews resulted in over 50 portraits of the residents. Through extraordinary photos and short texts, the book tells of life and the neighborhood in the district: from a freelance artist to a judo coach from Ukraine to a long-time retiree. Some of them will be present that evening.

Wolfgang Reuter and the Marzahn Chamber Choir will provide the musical accompaniment.

Asger Hunov is a professional photographer from Denmark. He lives with his family in Copenhagen and works at the city's university of applied sciences. Marzahn, with its green spaces, prefabricated buildings, and authentic residents, holds a special appeal for him, away from the usual tourist crowds.
