2026 Helene Weigel Theatre Awards for Kathrin Wehlisch For the past five years, the Friends of the Berliner Ensemble have been presenting the Helene Weigel Theatre Award in recognition of outstanding artistic achievements at the Berliner Ensemble.

This year, the actress Kathrin Wehlisch is being honoured for her distinctive artistic style and her influential work at the theatre.

For almost ten years, she has been a defining presence at the Berliner Ensemble, both on stage and behind the scenes. Her distinctive and unique style is particularly evident this season in her role as Josef K. in “K. – A Talmudic Farce Centred on Kafka’s The Trial” (directed by Barrie Kosky). “With extraordinary physical presence, she performs a haunting ‘dance of survival’ that oscillates between sheer madness and existential gravity, offering a radically new interpretation of Kafka,” said the jury.

The prize money is donated by board member Dr Daniel Weiß.

Featuring Amely Joana Haag, Rebecca Lyson, Oliver Reese, Matthias Warstat and Kathrin Wehlisch.

With the kind support of the Bundesverband Schauspiel e.V. (BFFS)
