Listening Session with DJ DumTak & Homaira
“Meshwar Mixtapes” is a listening series initiated by DJ DumTak, in which hosts guide the audience through personal and collective stories. In doing so, they weave together narratives, music, and projected translations of song lyrics to create an intimate, communal experience. Each episode focuses on underrepresented and marginalized experiences.

UNEXPECTED LESSON 2: Meshwar Mixtapes – Intro to Afghanistan 1
“Intro to Afghanistan,” presented as part of the “UNEXPECTED LESSONS – Knowledges of Body and Sound” program series, is moderated by the Afghanistan-born scholar Homaira. The listening session takes us on a journey to the hidden treasures of Afghan culture, cultural heritage, and the longing for an unknown and often unheard narrative.
The second part of the series, “UNEXPECTED LESSON 2: Music as Resistance,” is dedicated to music and dance practices as forms of resistance. In addition to the listening session “Meshwar Mixtapes – Intro to Afghanistan,” there will also be a Dabke workshop led by Nancy Naser Al Deen.
