Traditional festival at Späth: New highlights on historic grounds
Around 120 exhibitors offer gardening ideas, fine handicrafts, and beautiful plants for gardens, patios, and balconies: at the traditional festival in the Späth tree nurseries, the historic grounds are filled with the magic of autumn blossoms. A stage program with live music creates a lively atmosphere. There are also wines from local vintners, culinary specialties, and countless unique items for the home, garden, and kitchen.
Fairy tales in the Black Barn and carriage rides
The Monbijou Theater performs in the Black Barn, a new fairy-tale gem on the grounds. Storyteller Ellen Luckas enchants the little ones with fairy tales accompanied by music. A carriage invites families to take a ride through the tree nursery grounds. Children can also do crafts with natural materials in the craft tent.NEW: Weltacker – Variety Garden – Picnic in the Orchard
With colorful perennials and a pumpkin show featuring more than 100 edible varieties, Späth's tree nurseries welcome the harvest season. Picnic baskets are available in the farm shop for enjoyment in the new orchard area. The first apples are already appearing on the young trees. In the future, pears, plums, and cherries will be added as delicious fruits.A new highlight on the grounds is the Weltacker initiative with its field laboratory for sustainable agriculture of the future. Surrounded by old trees, garden delights, and city air, this is a place for learning, discovering, and participating. Right next door, Späth is opening a unique variety garden with 450 trees and shrubs of different genera, species, and varieties—making the Späth grounds more and more a space for education, nature, and sustainability.
Insights into garden art and garden craftsmanship
During a tour of the open-air tree nursery museum, guests experience a journey through more than 300 years of company history. Demonstrations of fruit tree pruning, apple tasting, and fruit variety identification are further highlights for all gardening enthusiasts.During the traditional festival weekend, the art exhibition “Thinking Things” with installations and sculptures by Franz Christanell will once again be on display in the new garden biotope at the carp pond. The South Tyrolean artist, who has a special connection to Späth, designed the garden biotope. It is called “Franz's Garden” and is intended to commemorate Franz Späth. The fifth-generation owner of the company once relocated the Späth nursery to the Britzer Wiesen, turning it into the largest tree nursery in the world and giving the later Berlin district its name: Baumschulenweg.
