TRACE is an exhibition about fleeting moments and faces, places and fragments. They tell stories that go beyond what is immediately visible. At its core, the exhibition explores human presence and our relationship to places: how we exist in spaces, how we leave traces behind, and how our surroundings preserve the imprints of our existence.

Through portraits, landscapes, and mixed media, this exhibition creates a dialogue between people and the places where they live or from which they sometimes flee.

Four artists based in Washington, D.C./Maryland bring diverse perspectives to this exploration, united by common themes such as memory, presence, and traces left behind, yet their approaches vary dramatically: some are raw and direct, while others are layered, abstract, or deliberately restrained. This contrast reflects how memory and meaning shift depending on perspective and time.

TRACE also examines the connections between various photographic processes—from traditional silver gelatin prints to experimental solar plates, from intimate cyanotypes to contemporary digital works. Each process has its own relationship to time and permanence and reflects how differently we experience and remember things. Handmade books invite a close, personal experience, while larger prints command space and attention.

The exhibition offers viewers space to find peace and look again, to contemplate the emotional facets of everyday life and to recognize how

people and places carry stories within them that often remain untold.

Meet the Artists: Make Noise, Leave Traces.

with Lely Constantinople, Martina Fornace, Claire Packer & Antonia Tricarico

Moderator: Rebecca Lilliecrona

*Discussion in English*

Four American artists rooted in Washington, D.C.’s hardcore punk and underground art scene will come together for an artist talk on the occasion of their first exhibition outside the U.S.

Artists

Lely Constantinople, Martina Fornace, Claire Packer, Antonia Tricarico

The photographs by Lely Constantinople, Martina Fornace, Claire Packer, and Antonia Tricarico are featured in numerous private collections and institutions such as the Smithsonian Institution, as well as in publications like the Washington Post and “Girlgaze” (Rizzoli). The artists have collaborated with labels such as Tolotta Records, Dischord Records, Kill Rock Stars, and numerous musicians.

The conversation will focus on their work, their original motivations for pursuing photography as an art form, and the way it can capture atmospheres, emotions, and moods that go beyond the immediately visible.

Furthermore, the conversation addresses the challenges of living and working in Washington, D.C.—a city currently at the center of political discourse and one that has far-reaching implications for artists worldwide. It explores the complexity of creating in a city that is both creative and fast-paced, yet heavily shaped by politics, particularly against the backdrop of a prevailing right-wing agenda.

Courtyard Festival at Haus Schwarzenberg

Committed collectives, local and international actors and artists will weave their stories into the Courtyard Festival—together we create alliances for artistic presence, a place of community at Haus Schwarzenberg. To this end, the Hoffest sets the stage: Strong networks emerge through an exhibition, participatory workshops, a solidarity kitchen, a performance space, and, not least, the vibrant energy of the house community, which immerses the live acts in the rich timbres of love, chaos, and artistic freedom.
