Inclusive youth dance project of the Theater und Orchester Heidelberg, Baden-Württemberg
How do adolescents and young adults manage to be both tender and strong when the world plunges from one crisis to the next? How can cooperation instead of competition, touch instead of isolation, hope and strength coexist – without coming at the expense of others?
"touch_taff" speaks of solidarity in difficult times, of the power of an empowering community, and of shared rage to avoid sinking into hopelessness. At the same time, the piece illuminates the challenges of living together: that inclusion doesn't happen automatically, that compromises, exclusions, and power dynamics are part of the process, and that some provide more support so that others can dance their way free.
It addresses the pain that can arise when people are very different and the struggle to make room for all needs and forms of expression. A fragile balance emerges between touchability and strength – between "touch" and "taff."
The first inclusive dance piece at the Heidelberg Dance Biennale is performed by 15 adolescents and young adults with and without disabilities. Together they dream, rage, doubt and hope, using their heads, hearts and bodies and bringing it all to life in dance, music and on stage – an intense experience for both ensemble and audience.
