Film Restored
This presentation by Digital Film Technology (DFT) is aimed at archivists, film conservators and specialists involved in the preservation of historically significant and physically vulnerable film collections.
The event addresses the challenges involved in digitising sensitive film materials affected, for example, by shrinkage, warping and deteriorating perforations. It also explores how technological developments are enabling the safer and more accurate digitisation of films that were previously considered too sensitive to scan. Using case studies from the archives of the film company Istituto Luce at Cinecittà in Rome, the event will demonstrate how technologies can support workflows in archives by reducing the preparatory work required for the scanning process.
The lecture provides an overview of new techniques in the digitisation of archive films and addresses the crucial role played by ongoing collaboration between technology developers and archivists.
