Mortal Wounds: Songs by Schumann, Poulenc, Price, and Others
“That I bear mortal wounds, That is the work of men.” Justinus Kerner These lines, which Robert Schumann set to music in 1840 in his Kerner Lieder, serve as the motto for the demanding and fascinating program with which baritone Theodore Platt and pianist Keval Shah make their debut at the Pierre Boulez Saal.
Through German, French, and American songs spanning from the 19th century to the present day, the two London-based artists explore the themes of suffering and reconciliation.
