Themed tour
The Ministry for State Security was both a secret police and a foreign intelligence service. Its foreign intelligence service is often described as the "best in the world" at the time.
Markus Wolf, head of the HV A and long known to Western services as "the man without a face," and the "Rosenholz" files still carry a sense of secrecy today. This is not least due to the fact that many documents – and thus also evidence – about the Stasi's "work in the West" were destroyed in 1989/90.
Nevertheless, it is still often possible to find information about the number of spies, the quality of their reports, and their subsequent processing. The tour traces the GDR's foreign intelligence service and shows which holdings of the Stasi Records Archive still contain material on this exciting chapter of the Cold War.
After the tour, you can visit the Stasi Records Archive's sample file collection. It is also possible to submit a request for access to the files directly on site.
The number of participants is limited to 15 people. Advance registration is possible at einblick-ins-geheime@bundesarchiv.de or by phone at +49 30 18 665-6699.
