Works by Haydn, Britten, and Montgomery

Traditionally, the Staatskapelle Berlin performs two programs at the Pierre Boulez Saal each season.

In the first concert, New Zealand conductor Gemma New makes her debut with the orchestra. Together with tenor Stephan Rügamer and hornist Ignacio García, she presents Benjamin Britten’s Serenade, one of the most famous works the composer wrote for Peter Pears.

Also on the program is Joseph Haydn’s final symphony, with which he celebrated a particular success in London in 1795.

The concert opens with the energetic “Strum” by American composer Jessie Montgomery, composed in 2012.
