Event 3 from the series ‘Never again war? 80 years after the end of the Second World War’
8 May 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.
Looking to the past is both a guide and a warning for Europe's future, especially since 24 February 2022.
Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine in particular brought back memories of the Second World War, its brutality and its devastating consequences for Germany and the whole of Europe.
What lessons can be learnt from the outcome of the Second World War for the war in Ukraine on the one hand and for its partners and supporters in Europe on the other? Do the events of the past show a way to end the killing and murder? What answers do Western democracies provide today to resolve armed conflicts sustainably?
The Konrad Adenauer Foundation cordially invites you to discuss these and other questions with historians of the era.
