An event organized by "Grandmas Against the Right"

"Grandmas Against the Right" is one of the largest nonpartisan women’s civil society initiatives in Germany. For them, being a grandma is a way of life. They advocate peacefully and nonpartisanly for human dignity, diversity, and democracy.

All of this stems from their conviction that Nazism must never be allowed to return and that all people share responsibility for a good, diverse future.

Katja Ruminatseva, a young human rights activist working on behalf of political prisoners in Belarus, shares the stories of people who have had their freedom violently taken away because they held politically undesirable views. This event is named after one of her stories.

They also ask about her personal motivations for her activism and her view of the value of freedom.

Toni and Selim from the rap duo Global Origins will be on stage performing music and participating in the discussion. As they state, they and their music stand:

“…unequivocally for tolerance, building bridges, and peaceful coexistence. Regardless of origin, religion, or sexuality. It’s about empowering and motivating people. We address racism, politics, and social criticism. We reflect on people’s mental health. On sustainability and a shared future. We combine all of this with art and culture.”

They, too, will be asked what motivates them, what freedom means to them, and how it can be protected.

OMAS GEGEN RECHTS and their guests want to bring freedom and its value to life this morning. Hear what they mean by it and join the conversation.
