Guided Tour (in German)
A special edition of the guided tour "Ritual and Religion" focuses on Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights, which celebrates the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem.
Participants will also explore the Torah, the holy scripture of Judaism. Children around the world learn Hebrew from an early age in order to read the Torah. Visitors will learn more about the significance of the holy scripture for Jews today and its interpretation. A sound map of the world showcases Jewish languages that have developed in the Diaspora.
In the installation "Why Follow the Law," Jewish people discuss their personal approach to religious commandments. Objects and everyday items illustrate Jewish life practices such as the Jewish dietary laws (Kashrut) and the commandment of charity (Tzedakah). A flamenco dress, a sewing cushion, and a crown offer insights into the diversity within Judaism.
